The key idea is understanding what elements make up the secondary containment system, the extra barrier designed to keep spills or leaks from reaching the environment. Under Dispenser Containment is part of that barrier, catching and holding spills at the dispenser area. A Containment Sensor is part of the monitoring aspect that detects leaks within the containment area. Double Wall Piping provides an additional physical barrier with an interstitial space to contain leaks from piping.

A Monitoring Well, however, is used for environmental monitoring—sampling groundwater to check for any contamination after a potential release. It is not a component that contains or prevents a leak itself, so it isn’t considered part of the secondary containment system.
